Each year the IU Poynter Center for the Study of Ethics and American Institutions sponsors one team consisting of five undergraduate students to prepare, travel, and compete in the Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl. The competition begins with ten regional matches in the fall that feed the national competition, held in the early spring. The Central States regional, in which the IU team competes, was held Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Marian University in Indianapolis. This year's team came within a couple points of placing high enough to go to the national competition, but the competition was fierce, and they came in sixth. The top four teams will go to Cincinnati.
The IU team members for 2010-11 were:
The coach was Luke P. Phillips, a PhD candidate in Philosophy. The advisor was Professor Sandy Shapshay from Philosophy. The sponsor was Richard Miller from the Poynter Center.
