Research Stipend Recipients
2006-07
Three undergraduates who were selected to receive research stipends in ethics for
the 2006-07 academic year presented their research at the Poynter Center, 618 East Third Street.

Indira Dammu answers a question after her presentation April 10, 2007 at the Poynter
Center. Indira, a sophomore in economics and political science, studied the Massachusetts health care plan. Her
advisor was Professor Sandra Shapshay in Philosophy. |

On April 18, 2007, Maggie Downham, a senior in religious studies, spoke about
her study of the Eastern Orthodox Church in North America and how the church identifies its social responsibility. Her
advisor was Professor David Brakke in Religious Studies. |

Emily
Campbell, a senior in sociology, studied how restorative justice conferencing is used
in the Indianapolis Public Schools. She spoke April 25, 2007. Her advisor was Professor Elizabeth Armstrong in Sociology, and her
mentor was Professor John Stanfield in African-American and African Diaspora Studies. |

James Conant received one of the first Research Stipends in Practical Ethics for IUB
undergraduates. James, a senior in political science and philosophy, studied the
Oregon Basic Health Services Act of 1989 and related acts to create an argument for
universal access to health care. James gave a presentation on his paper at the Poynter
Center May 1, 2006 as a part of the project. His advisor was Professor Sandra Shapshay from Philosophy. |
